I was inspired by the latest Pikmin installment but found its water dwelling denizens to be lacking and as such took it upon myself to heavily research and attempt to replicate a game ready model that would fit in technically and aesthetically in Pikmin 4.
I approached not only as an art research project, but also a technical showcase of bringing to life a custom designed Pikmin boss. Aside from researching Pikmin fauna to attempt to match the look and feel of the Switch title, I rigged, animated, as well as made blueprint code to create functionality for the boss.
A big challenge was questioning that if I removed Pikmin entirely from the equation, could this creature still be representative of the franchise through visuals and movement alone?
